Competition 2006 |
| Plenty of photographs to
choose from this year. Many apparently entered for no other reason than
the fact they were taken underwater. Underwater photography may be more
difficult than everyday shooting, but the basic premis for taking a good
shot remains the same.

| Winner! Submitted by
Jill & Jonah I was very pleased to find a winner which did
not compromise on any of the issues relating to a good shot. This
picture takes the honours, with ease. The colours are well balanced and
pleasing. The focus is spot on, allowing the viewer to enjoy the shot
without distraction. The composition was thoughtful, providing an
engaging scene for any viewer to enjoy. The background, so often
overlooked in shots, is an excellent blank canvas, ensuring the subject
is emphatic. A picture that would grace any main living space with
aplomb, especially in a big, bold statement. |
 |
| Second
submitted by Kenny Second place goes to this picture which has a
well silhouetted subject, showing good balance between light & dark.
Good focus and colouring. The composition was very good, however, it was
also the composition which kept it from the top spot, ironically. The
shot, although very good, suffers from being very similar to many turtle
shots to be found in any Sunday supplement. Good composition, but not
unusual enough to set it apart. |
 |
| Third Jill
& Jonah Third place goes to this picture. Nice colouring, good
lighting and suffering only from a marginal focus image. The composition
of subject & setting is superb. Real life & interest in the
picture. A near miss, but a good photo’ to hang proudly in a hallway.

| Joint 4th Jim
Hallyburton Third place this year was extremely difficult, as so
many photographs had one or more elements of a great shot. Honourable
mentions for near misses go to this picture, which is a great
composition, suffering only from marginal darkness and marginal focus
issues. |
 |
| Joint 4th Nicola .This
picture has good colours, focus, draws interest from the viewer, suffers
only from a near miss of composition. |
 |
| Joint 4th Kenny
This picture has excellent colours, light & focus, but the
composition, although decent, lacks the drama of an outstanding picture. |
 |
| Special Mention :-The colours are
well balanced, focus is good, composition is good. This may be due, in
part, to the subject being less likely to move around in front of the
photographer as much as other possibilities. Definitely a shot to be
hung up for public consumption |
